Privacy policy
Waterphile is a free information site about bottled water. We collect as little as we can. This page explains what happens when you use it.
Who we are
Waterphile (waterphile.com) is run by the Waterphile team. For anything about privacy, email hello@waterphile.com.
What we collect today
There are no accounts, sign-ups, comments or forms on Waterphile. We do not run our own analytics and we do not set advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices in the compare tool (for example which waters you pick) stay in your browser address bar. They are not sent to us as personal data.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies for this. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
If you email us
If you write to hello@waterphile.com, we use your email address and message only to reply and to fix data you report. We keep it only as long as needed for that, and we do not add you to any mailing list.
Advertising (planned)
We plan to show ads through Google AdSense to keep the site free. When ads are switched on, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to show ads, including personalised ads based on your visits to this and other sites.
Before any non-essential cookies are used, visitors in the UK and EEA will be asked for consent through a consent banner, and you will be able to refuse or change your choice at any time. You can also manage personalised ads at Google Ad Settings. Learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com. We will update this page when ads go live.
Affiliate links (planned)
In future some links to retailers may be affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer may use cookies to record that you came from Waterphile, under the retailer's own privacy policy. We do not receive your personal details from them.
Ratings and votes (if and when enabled)
Taste votes and ratings are not open yet. If and when we enable anonymous voting, we will only store a one-way hashed version of your IP address to limit duplicate votes, not the IP address itself, and we will update this page first.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EEA, you have rights under data protection law, including to ask for access to, correction of or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and to object to its use. Email hello@waterphile.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or your local data protection authority.
If you are in the US: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not knowingly share it for cross-context behavioural advertising today. If that changes when ads go live, we will explain your choices here.
Children
Waterphile is a general information site and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when anything changes, for example when ads or voting go live, and change the date at the top. Last updated 25 October 2026.
