Best bottled water for cats
Fresh water matters most. If you buy bottled, these still waters are low in magnesium and minerals.
Criterion: Still, unflavoured spring, mineral or artesian water with published magnesium of 10 mg/L or less, TDS or dry residue of 250 mg/L or less and sodium of 20 mg/L or less, all from the brand’s own verified analysis. Distilled and purified waters are left out because pet-care sources say they may not be the best everyday choice. Ranked by Waterphile Score.
Not veterinary advice. If your pet has a urinary, kidney or heart condition, or a vet-prescribed diet, ask your vet what to give it to drink.
Why it matters
Cornell’s Feline Health Center says the most useful thing is clean, fresh water at all times, plus wet food, because cats that drink little are more prone to bladder stones. Struvite stones contain magnesium, and cat foods already limit it, so water is a small part of a cat’s magnesium. Tap water that is safe for you is generally fine; a low-mineral bottled water is an option if your tap water is very hard. How scores work →

FAQ
Can cats drink tap water?
Yes, in most places. Tap water that is safe for people is generally fine for cats. Cornell’s Feline Health Center stresses clean, fresh water at all times and wet food to help cats drink enough.
Does magnesium in water cause crystals in cats?
Struvite crystals and stones contain magnesium, but cat food is the main source and most commercial diets already limit it. Low intake of fluids is a bigger risk factor. Ask your vet if your cat has had crystals.
